Comprehensive guide covering the scope, eligibility, validity, and application process for the Australia eVisitor. This information is provided for general guidance; please always verify current regulations with the official Department of Home Affairs.
The eVisitor is an official Australian visa for citizens of 36 eligible European countries travelling to Australia for tourism, to visit family or friends, or for business visitor activities. It is granted by the Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Government charges nothing for it, and it is linked digitally to your passport, so no physical document or stamp is required.
The eVisitor permits multiple entries during its 12-month validity, with a stay of up to 3 months after each entry, though it does not grant the right to paid work for an Australian employer or to study for more than 3 months. Upon approval, travelers receive an email confirmation that should be retained for reference. Please note that while an approved eVisitor serves as your official travel clearance, final admission is determined by an Australian Border Force officer at the point of entry.
| Validity Period | 12 months from the date the visa is granted |
| Number of Entries | Unlimited during validity period |
| Maximum Stay per Entry | 3 months |
| Modes of Travel | Air and sea (including cruise) |
| Issuing Authority | Department of Home Affairs |
The eVisitor is not a work visa. It does not permit paid work for an Australian employer, selling goods or services directly to the public, or study of more than 3 months in total. Travelers intending to work, enroll in a full-time course, or establish long-term residence must secure the appropriate visa before departure.
The Australia eVisitor is available to citizens of 36 eligible European countries who hold a valid passport from that country. It cannot be granted on a non-citizen passport, a certificate of identity or other travel document including a Titre de Voyage, or a British National Overseas, British Dependent Territories Citizen, British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person, or British Subject passport. Please confirm your nationality against the active list on the official Department of Home Affairs website before applying.
Exemptions: Australian citizens are not eligible to apply and do not need a visa, while New Zealand citizens are automatically issued a Special Category Visa upon arrival.
