The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority
The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) is a digital entry authorisation issued by Immigration New Zealand. It is required for visa-waiver travellers, and for all cruise ship passengers regardless of nationality, visiting New Zealand by air or sea for short stays. A mandatory NZD $100 International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) is paid alongside it. The NZeTA is not a work visa and does not authorise paid employment or long-term study.
Travellers may request an NZeTA directly through the Immigration New Zealand website (NZD $23) or app (NZD $17), plus the mandatory NZD $100 IVL. Use of this website is optional.
Where an application is made through this website, the service consists of:
- Review of the completed application form by a trained caseworker prior to submission
- Identification of incomplete or inconsistent information
- Submission of the NZeTA and the IVL to Immigration New Zealand
- Customer support by email in eleven languages, seven days a week
- Recovery of the approval confirmation in the event it is lost
Final decisions on every request are made by Immigration New Zealand. This service does not influence the outcome of a request and cannot guarantee approval.
