The US Electronic System for Travel Authorization
The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is a digital pre-travel authorization issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), part of the Department of Homeland Security. It is required for nationals of Visa Waiver Program countries travelling to the United States by air or sea for short visits of up to 90 days, including tourism, business, transit, and medical treatment. It is not a visa, and it does not authorise paid employment, study, journalism on assignment, or permanent residence.
Travellers may apply for an ESTA directly through the official CBP portal at esta.cbp.dhs.gov for the standard government fee of USD $40 (comprising USD $4 processing and USD $36 authorization). Use of this website is optional. The price shown at checkout includes the USD $40 government fee paid in full to CBP, together with a service fee payable to TravelHub Travel and Tourism L.L.C.
Where an application is made through this website, the service consists of:
- Review of the completed application form by a trained caseworker prior to submission
- Identification of incomplete or inconsistent information
- Submission of the application to CBP on the applicant's behalf
- Customer support by email in eleven languages, seven days a week
- Recovery of the approval confirmation in the event it is lost
Final decisions on every application are made by CBP. This service does not influence the outcome of an application and cannot guarantee approval.
